Tips for Choosing
Red photographs well but can clash with backdrops (especially at the Forbidden City). Try dark green, royal blue, or dusty pink — these stand out more in photos and look more sophisticated.

Large patterns work for full-body shots; small florals suit half-body close-ups. Solid colors look most elegant but may appear plain in photos.
Best Shooting Times
7-9am (soft light, fewer tourists) and 4-6pm (golden sunset light) are the two golden windows. Harsh overhead light at noon creates unflattering facial shadows.
Choosing for Different Body Types
Slender — short qipao for a playful look
- 微胖 — 选A字摆、深色,避免紧身款 | Curvy — A-line hem, dark colors, avoid too-tight fits
Tall — long qipao for maximum presence
Petite — above-knee length with heels for elongation
Many shops offer photographer accompaniment (¥300-800/hour) — far better than selfies. On a budget, at least bring a phone tripod.
