Subway, Taxi & Convenience Store: Mobile Pay in Action

Two main options: scan a "transit code" directly from Alipay or WeChat at the turnstile, or activate a virtual transit card inside Alipay covering 100+ cities. Try it for the first time outside rush hour.

Didi is the go-to. English interface, foreign card support, Uber-like flow. Tips: manually confirm pickup location (GPS drifts near tall buildings), use Chinese destination names or copy-paste addresses, and screenshot your destination in case the driver doesn't speak English.

Convenience stores are the best place to practice — small amounts, relaxed pace, staff who've seen everything. Tell the cashier "scan me" (they scan your code) or "I scan" (you scan their QR). Either works at most chains.
Before entering any payment situation, open your payment code in advance. Don't wait until the cashier is watching — those thirty seconds are uncomfortable for everyone.
